How It Works

The Rewire Process, Step by Step

A full home rewire is a significant project. Here is what to expect when you work with Prairie Forge Electric.

01Step 1

Site Assessment and Quote

We visit the property, assess the existing wiring condition, panel setup, and scope of work before providing a written quote.

02Step 2

Permit Application

Prairie Forge Electric handles the permit filing with the local authority so the work is inspection-ready from the start.

03Step 3

Rough-In Wiring

New circuits are run through walls and ceilings. All wiring is placed before drywall is closed, keeping disruption manageable and the work accessible for inspection.

04Step 4

Panel Connection and Devices

Once rough-in passes inspection, we connect circuits at the panel and install all outlets, switches, and fixtures per the project scope.

05Step 5

Final Inspection and Handoff

The completed work is inspected, and we walk you through the new system so you understand your panel layout and circuit locations.

Frequently asked

Common Questions About Home Rewiring

Find clear answers about service options, scheduling, preparation, and what to expect before you request an estimate.

Q1

How do I know if my home needs a full rewire?

Common signs include flickering lights, frequently tripped breakers, two-prong outlets, visible knob-and-tube wiring in the attic, or a home built before the 1970s that has never had its wiring updated. A site visit gives a clearer picture.

Q2

Does a full rewire require permits in Manitoba?

Yes. Electrical work of this scope requires a permit through Manitoba Hydro or the local authority having jurisdiction. Prairie Forge Electric manages that process as part of the project.

Q3

Will we need to move out during the rewire?

That depends on the size of the home and how the work is phased. For most projects we can work room by room, but there will be periods without power. We discuss the timeline with you before work begins.

Q4

How long does a full home rewire typically take?

Most single-family homes take between three and seven days of on-site work, depending on square footage, the number of circuits, and access within the walls. Older homes with more complex layouts can take longer.

Q5

Do you rewire homes in Steinbach and surrounding areas?

Yes. Prairie Forge Electric serves Steinbach, Niverville, Ste Anne, East St. Paul, Headingley, Blumenort, and Winnipeg, along with other Manitoba communities in the surrounding region.

Q6

Is a panel upgrade part of a full rewire?

Sometimes. If the existing panel is undersized or outdated, we will include a panel upgrade as part of the scope. This gets assessed during the initial site visit and reflected in the quote.

Q7

Can you add circuits for an EV charger or hot tub during a rewire?

Absolutely. A rewire is a good time to plan for a dedicated EV charger circuit, hot tub connection, or other high-draw appliances since the walls are already open and the panel is being updated.

Q8

What wiring type do you install?

We install copper wiring rated for residential use, run to current Canadian Electrical Code standards. Aluminum branch wiring is not used in our rewire projects.
